Food intolerance testing

What is a food intolerance?

A food intolerance is a sensitivity to a certain food, drink or additive that is causing you unwanted symptoms. Reactions are often delayed (2–72 hours), which makes them harder to pinpoint without testing.

Often delayed, so hard to spot

A sensitivity to a food, drink or additive. Reactions commonly arrive 2–72 hours later, which is why a food diary alone rarely settles it.

  • Family tendency
  • After a virus
  • Gut changes
  • Hormones or stress

Intolerance can be there from the start, or begin later in life.

Two ways to test

Skin screening in the room, or a blood panel sent to an accredited lab.

Electrodermal skin testing

Painless, no needles, and you do not eat or touch the foods. More than 100 foods, environmental allergens and E numbers in one visit.

Not suitable if you have a pacemaker. Blood testing is still available.

IgG blood testing

Blood sample taken in clinic and analysed — 57 or 200 foods, covering the things most people eat every week. A written report follows.

  • Dairy
  • Gluten & grains
  • Nuts
  • Fruit
  • Egg
  • Seafood
  • Vegetables
  • Soy, yeast, coffee

Questions

Intolerance testing

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten, involving specific antibodies and intestinal damage. Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity may produce similar symptoms without the autoimmune component. Both can be investigated through blood testing.
